Northeastern University: Center of Community Services

About Us

What is Service-Learning?

Service-Learning (S-L) is a form of experiential learning for students and a teaching tool for faculty that purposefully integrates academics and service or community-engaged projects to meet classroom and community goals throughout the semester. As part of their coursework, students partner with community-based organizations, non-profit organizations, and government agencies as a way to learn the course material.

In addition to service-learning courses, the Service-Learning Program supports research related to service-learning and community engagement, including publicly-engaged scholarship.

The mission of Service-Learning at Northeastern University is to integrate classroom and community goals through transformative service partnerships that enrich the academic experience, inspire lifelong community engagement, and strengthen our local and global communities.
