When will I receive my diploma?
Diplomas are scheduled to be mailed approximately 4-6 weeks after degrees are officially awarded by the Office of the Registrar. International mail requires an additional 1-2 week delivery time. Please note that this time frame is an estimate and is subject to change due to the current global COVID-19 pandemic. Graduates will be provided an advance notice when diplomas are being mailed. Diplomas are not available for pick up on campus.
I cleared my financial hold, when can I expect my diploma?
If you clear your financial hold after the mailing schedule, your diploma will be withheld in our office. We don’t receive automatic notifications when students complete holds, so it is your responsibility to contact our office regarding the release of your diploma. Please be advised it can take up to 7 business days to confirm a hold has been cleared. Once we receive confirmation from the Student Financial Services Office we can arrange for the mailing of your diploma.
Will my major be printed on my diploma?
The major will be printed on diplomas for non-specified degrees (Associate in Science, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Professional Studies, Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study, Doctor of Philosophy) only. Minors and concentrations are not printed on any diplomas.
What are the dimensions/size of the diploma?
All degrees are 11×14 inches. Certificates are 8.5×11 inches.
Will my honors designation be listed on my diploma (cum laude, magna cum laude, or summa cum laude)?
Honors designations are listed on diplomas for undergraduate degrees only. Please visit the current catalog through the Office of the Registrar for the academic requirements needed to achieve honors designation.
How do I change my diploma mailing address in my Graduation Application?
- Log onto the Student Hub
- Click “Resources”
- Scroll to the Graduation Information section
- View Application to Graduate
- Scroll to the diploma mailing address and enter your new address
- Click the “update address” button
- Please put the address that is best to mail your diploma. It does not have to be your current living address.
- You must change your address 2 weeks prior to graduating.
What name is printed on my diploma?
Your legal name will appear on your diploma. You will be able to add/edit your middle name in the Graduation Application.
No prefix or suffix relating to a title or credential is allowed (Dr., DMD, Esq, Mrs. Mr. etc).
If you need to change your legal name please fill out the Name Change Form.
How do I change my name on my diploma?
Complete this form and email it to the Registrar’s Office (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the applicable documentation if you would like to change your name on your graduation application and diploma.
Your request must be processed by the Registrar’s Office no less than 6 weeks prior to the ceremony to ensure that your diploma will be printed correctly.
If you are changing your name 6 weeks after you’ve received your diploma, you will need to fill out the Replacement Diploma Form instead.
How do I request a replacement diploma?
You can find information on requesting a replacement diploma here. Please note there is a fee of $50 and the process will take 6-8 weeks. We are unable to rush replacement diplomas at this time

Certified Electronic Diploma (CeDiploma)
Northeastern University now provides a Certified Electronic Diploma (CeDiploma) to all graduates as of March 2020 and forward in addition to your traditional paper diploma. Students will receive an email notification when their CeDiplomas are available for download. Please email us for more information.
