Meet Date: Nov 19, 2016

Meet Location: Away

NUSC traveled to Pennsylvania to compete in the UPenn Fall Invitational for the last swim meet of the semester. Northeastern’s women swam close races and made impressive times that are in direct correlation with the hard work put in during practices. Northeastern’s 200 Medley A relay placed first overall with a seed time drop of two seconds. Northeastern swept the 200 free, placing 1-4 with freshmen Ellie Furuta continuing her 200 free domination finishing first, followed by Alice Renaud, Emma Coreno, and Sam Pinkes. Freshman Gabby Monasterio dropped a crazy seven seconds in the 200 IM and placed first overall. Monasterio was also the only NUSC member to participate in the 100 fly, placing third overall. Maya Philbrick had a great 200 IM, placing fourth and shaving off two seconds from her seed time. Tara Toppazzini had another stellar meet, placing first in both the 50 free, breaking 26.00, 50 back, with a whopping three second drop to 27.08, and 100 back. In the 50 free, Veditha Regulapati and Sydney Formica broke their seed times of 28, dropping to a 27.78 and 27.94. Formica also placed first overall in the 100 IM, dropping to a 1:09.54, followed by Morgan Lenney (1:10.28). Middler Alice Renaud claimed first place in the 100 free, closely followed by Tara Toppazzini and Sam Pinkes who broke 1:00.00 placing fourth and fifth overall. The 500 free was also dominated by NUSC women; Ellie Furuta placed first with a 5:42.27, followed by Emma Coreno (5:47.04) and Alice Renaud (5:58.49). Ava Asai-Sarris placed first in both the 50 breast and 100 breast, closely followed by fellow breaststrokers Ilayda Alkislar and Maya Philbrick. In addition to a number of time drops and event sweeps, NUSC women showed great team spirit. This performance at UPenn was an impressive end to an impressive 2016 fall semester. Time to continue working and preparing for Nationals! -Hanalei Fong
