NUSC hosted the 2016 NCCS this past Saturday against University of Connecticut, Dartmouth University, and University of Maine. There was a plethora of fast swims and Nationals qualifications from a number of swimmers on the women's side. The Women’s 200 medley A relay, which included Kassidy Heath, Ava Asai-Sarris, Gabby Monasterio, and Sydney Formica, dropped three seconds and placed third. Ellie Furuta, Sam Pinkes, and Dana Bogatko had solid 200 free swims, coming in second, third, and fifth. Maya Philbrick had a great 200 IM swim with a 2:33.96. While UCONN unfortunately dominated the 100 IM, sweeping the top six places, Alice Renaud and Morgan Lenney were able sneak into 7th and 8th. Lenney broke 1:10 and dropped to a season-best, 1:09.72. Kassidy Heath had a great meet and placed third in the 100 back and the 50 back. Gabby Monasterio also did well and placed first in the 50 back and third in the 200 IM. Dana Bogatko and Emily Barlow swam the same time of 31.25 in the 50 free. Breaststrokers, Ava Asai-Sarris, Ilayda Alkislar, and Allison Bloom placed first, third, and seventh in the 50 breaststroke. The same three dominated the 100 breaststroke, claiming 1st, 3rd, and 4th, respectively. Women’s swimmer of the meet, Sydney Formica, went out of her comfort zone to swim the 50 breaststroke, as well as the 50 fly where she placed third (first for Northeastern) with a 0.1 second drop to 29.39. Freshman Katie Armstrong had another solid meet, placing second in the 100 free and dropping to a 30.39 in the 50 fly. Middler Alice Renaud had a great 200 IM swim, followed by freshman Gabby Monasterio. Lenney and Noble had good 200 backstroke swims, and Asai-Sarris and Philbrick had impressive 200 breaststroke swims. University of Connecticut unfortunately edged first place with a combined score of 1266.5, closely followed by Northeastern with 1151. University of Maine edged out Dartmouth by 36.5 points to place third. This was a competitive, fun meet and Northeastern admirably competed with top-dog University of Connecticut throughout it all. We will be traveling to UPenn for our last meet of the semester. Go Huskies! -Hanalei Fong
