In February, CLIC will host scholar and Japan’s foremost expert on data protection, Fumio Shimpo. Dr. Shimpo will join NUSL’s own Professor Woodrow Hartzog for a series of events and lectures, including a lecture and fireside chat on February 11, 2020 (click here to learn more).
Dr. Fumio Shimpo is Professor of Faculty of Policy Management at Keio University. Ph.D in Law. The area of academic expertise is Constitutional Law, Cyber-Law and Robot Law. Dr. Shimpo is responsible for a Commissioner for International Academic Exchange at the Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan and the former vice-chair of the OECD Working Party on Security and Privacy in the Digital Economy (SPDE).Dr. Shimpo is also the Executive Director of the Japanese Constitutional Law Society, Executive Director of the Japan Society of Information and Communication Research, Director of the Law and Computer Society, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Information and Communications Policy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. Dr. Shimpo has widely published in the field of privacy, data protection ,information law and AI & Robot Law. Dr. Shimpo has won several awards such as the 18th Telecom Social Science Incentive Award of the Telecommunications Dissemination Foundation’s. Currently Dr. Shimpo researches focus on Data Protection and Privacy, Cyber-Crime and Information Security and Legal issues regarding AI, IoT and robots.
