This year, the Northeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will join the Care for Kenya program to enrich the lives of school children in Kenya. With your help to bring our project to fruition, our SAAC members will travel to Kenya to deliver much-needed school supplies and to introduce a new sports curriculum to Kenyan schools. Through the role of teacher, we will help improve the level of education in the selected regions while enhancing our own educational experience and worldly understanding. Furthermore, by taking part in this trip, we will serve as proud representatives of Northeastern University and its mission to create and translate knowledge to meet global and societal needs.
Given Northeastern's significance internationally, we are thankful for the opportunity to serve as ambassadors for the university in a foreign country like Kenya. While the main goal of the trip is to enrich the lives and experiences of school children in Kenya, your support will also, undoubtedbly, enrich our lives, leaving a lasting impact that will extend beyond our time at Northeastern. We know that this program will help us gain a greater sense of humility and understanding of the need to give back. We also hope to gain invaluable training in leadership and teaching techniques as we will be in charge of introducing basic fundamentals of sports to children in ways they have never experienced. For that, we are grateful for any contribution you can make.
Our Catalyst fundraising goal is $2,000. This amount will cover the price of lodging for two SAAC respresentatives to stay in Kenya for seven nights as they carry out our group's mission to deliver the school supplies we collect and sports curriculum we develop.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a national organization with chapters at every NCAA Division I affiliated university. The mission of SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete well being, and fostering a positive student-athlete image. The Northeastern chapter of SAAC strives to do all of these things while staying true to the athletic departments values of leadership, critical thinking, concept of coach as educator, appreciation of difference, & community service.
Care for Kenya is a project that seeks to provide students and families deemed to be in the greatest of need with the tools neccessary to be educationally successful. With the inaugural project taking place during the summer of 2014, the Care for Kenya project has provided school supplies to more than 60 different students and families throughout the Nakuru and Eldoret regions of Kenya and plans to maintain those relationships with established students, as well as continue to expand the number of students and families served by this project each year.
