National Club Soccer Tournament

Project Update - January 2014

Thank you to all who donated to our Fall 2013 Catalyst Fundraiser Project. With your efforts our team was able raise $2,000 to help bring down the cost of travelling to our National Tournament.

Every year, our goal as the Northeastern Mens Club Soccer Team is to win the national championship and 2013 was our most successful season to-date. In 2013, for the first time ever, we were named champions of Region 1 and earned a bid to compete in the National Championship in Phoenix, Arizona. Without your contributions we would not have been able to take all 24 players with us to enjoy the soccer experience of a lifetime.

On Day 1 of the tournament, we faced a strong Texas A&M team, losing 2-1 in a close battle that could have gone either way. Our second game of the day was against the reigning national champions, Weber St., and we lost 4-1 in a contest that was closer than the score indicates. A downpour of overnight rain registered the fields unplayable and caused the tournament to be unexpectedly cancelled for the first time ever.

The team decided to embrace the opportunity to explore what Phoenix had to offer with the suddenly free weekend by eating at local Mexican food places, playing pickup soccer in the parking lots, and bonding during team meals.

Though the National Tournament was cancelled, the weekend can still be considered a success. For the first time in the history of Northeastern our team competed in the competitive division of the National Tournament, a record number of new student-athletes participated in our season, and we engaged more donors to raise more funds than ever before.

Our team is committed to return next year as hungry as ever and only with contributions from people like you, will this be possible.

Our Project

The Northeastern University Men’s Soccer Club trains for, competes in, and represents Northeastern in the Region 1 Club Soccer League, consisting of schools throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Each year, we also have the opportunity to play at the national level.

It is our annual goal to compete in the National Club Soccer Tournament. To do so, not only do we need to qualify, but we must also be able to finance any and all expenses related to the tournament. These expenses typically include a steep entry fee, travel and transportation, lodging, and food. As an entirely student-run club, this adds up quickly, especially since we also take on full responsibility of purchasing equipment, scheduling practices and games, hiring coaching staff, and financing all of our team's needs.

With your help, we hope to raise $2,000, which will enable us to continue to represent Northeastern on the national stage. Funding these essentials would be a great boost to our program and Northeastern as a whole, allowing us to carry on the continued success of the Northeastern brand in the Men's Soccer Club Program.

Our Goal

Our goal is to raise $2,000 to directly subsidize the travel expenses associated with our trip to the National Club Soccer Tournament which includes transportation and lodging for each member of the team.
