This athletic facility is located across the street from the Marino Recreation Center, and provide some extra amenities. These are:
  • 2 racquetball/wallyball courts
  • Indoor track
  • Indoor soccer field

Barletta Natatorium

A 25-yard indoor swimming pool with a diving section. The pool is used for recreational activities, classes and competitions. For more information, visit the Aquatics page.

  • Please be advised that only holders of a current valid Northeastern University ID Card with good standings are allowed access to the ice during open skate hours.
  • Open skate IS NOT open to the general public.
  • Faculty skate is NOT open skate for faculty/staff. It is a Faculty/Staff Ice Hockey League, not open to all.
  • The world's oldest ice hockey arena and one of the nation's exemplary athletic facilities is Matthews Arena, a repolished gem named for George J. Matthews, Class of '56, and his wife, the late Hope M. Matthews. The original home of the Boston Bruins, the Celtics and the Beanpot, the Arena has served as the center of Northeastern hockey since the program's inception for the 1929-30 season.

    The Campus Recreation department utilizes Matthews for its intramural hockey and broomball programs as well as some club sports. We also offer ice time for open skate: you must provide your own skates and no hockey equipment is allowed.

    The Marino Center, with its architecture and state-of -the-art fitness and recreation amenities, is an 81,000 square-foot building that was voted one of the top ten recreational facilities in the country. The center which opened in the Fall of 1996, is utilized for intramural and club sports, drop-in recreation, instructional programs, personal training and group fitness. The entire center serves the varied physical and recreational needs of our diverse population.

    1st Floor
    The spacious atrium gives students, faculty, and staff a relaxed place to socialize. Two cafe, food market, and ATM machines are available. The Campus Recreation Office is located on this floor, as well as the Women's and Men's locker rooms. Each house 400 lockers and a sauna.

    2nd Floor
    The fitness floor offers a variety of exercise equipment, including stairclimbers, treadmills, upright and recumbent exercise bikes, cross-country ski machines, rowing ergometers, elliptical climbers, and even a Treadwall that simuates rockclimbing. A 3,800-square-foot multipurpose room is used for aerobics classes and martial arts clubs. The gymnasium is comprised of three basketball courts that can also be used for volleyball, badminton, roller hockey, and futsal.

    3rd Floor
    A state-of-the-art resistance training area contains 42 free-weight stations and 40 pieces of selectorized weight machines. There is also a fully-equipped free weight room. A three-lane suspended track is available for either walking or jogging.
