HOW DO I INTRODUCE THE PROGRAM TO UPPER-LEVEL MANAGEMENT?

The following are suggested as talking points for a discussion with upper-level management about signing on to the program.

  • The program augments and strengthens a site’s existing safety program — it does not replace it.
  • The program promotes collaborative competition, teambuilding, and safety awareness.
  • Frequent and comprehensive site safety assessments address the severity of both safe and unsafe observations.
  • No disruption of current safety processes.
  • The program positively influences on-site communication structures.
  • The program facilitates recognition of safe working environments.
  • Funding for the program rewards and program visibility (posters, stickers, etc.).
  • Frequent site safety assessments.
Developing communication and recognition structures are the program’s key program elements. The program budget must account for rewards and program visibility, and is often the responsibility of the owner or general contractor. Program costs can be scaled to meet the budget of a project, and are dependent on worksite size and project duration.
