NUBridge: Accelerating Your Career Readiness
NUBridge is an agile and market-driven skills development program hosted at our Silicon Valley regional campus.
With an all-inclusive program fee of $1,250, this program is designed to be value-orientated and feasible for newly minted prospective employees and recent graduates who are looking to enhance their capabilities, confidence, and networks.
Starting on September 11, 2020, and offered fully online, the NUBridge program is taught by Northeastern University’s leading industry partners in Silicon Valley and will equip you with the skills needed to adapt and respond to ever-changing market demands, meet employer-focused characteristics and management competencies – ranging from personal finance to introductory coding for non-computer science majors.
Upon completion of this program, students will:
- Gain a competitive advantage in the market through in-demand skills taught in the NUBridge program
- Expand professional connections by participating in networking opportunities
NUBridge facilitates students’ transition to the start of their careers. It includes a mix of lectures, experiential activities, and networking opportunities. The program will be offered at the Silicon Valley campus and will include in-person activities and events where possible.

Naeem Zafar is a faculty member at the University of California Berkeley, Center of Entrepreneurship and Technology and a professor of the practice at Brown University. He has taught entrepreneurship and new venture finance since 2005. As a serial entrepreneur, he co-founded and served as the CEO of several companies, including Bitzer Mobile, which was acquired by Oracle in November 2013. He is currently the CEO of TeleSense, an industrial internet of things company. Zafar has published several cases in Harvard Business Publishing and has authored five books. He has an ScB degree from Brown University.
Jennifer Skene, PhD
Jennifer Skene is a senior product manager at Carbon Five, a collaborative product development consultancy, and has worked with Mixmax and Inkling. She has a ScB degree from Brown University and PhD from UC Berkeley.
Module Focus: Job Interviews and Job Hunt
● Identify five qualities that you want an interviewer to remember about you, and then find five stories/examples where you exhibited those qualities.
● Use these anecdotes to answer typical job interview questions such as "tell me about a time you had a conflict with another person" and "tell me about a time you made a mistake.“

Sophie Asher leads Product Marketing at product board, after having built her career in GTM strategy at Salesforce and Twilio. She graduated from Brown with a B.A. in Medieval Studies and started her career in finance, first at Bridgewater and then at a global investment firm. Following that, she moved into tech and helped drive Salesforce’s global enterprise, inside, and Asia-Pacific sales strategy. She moved into customer marketing at Salesforce’s email automation platform Pardot, and then moved to Twilio to build out and develop their customer marketing and advocacy program. While at Twilio Sophie was responsible for building out the first executive events program, customer advisory boards, sales enablement program, product launch process for 30+ products, and GTM strategy across the product portfolio. Sophie has spent significant time traveling and working with international teams, and is passionate about crafting narratives around technical products. In her spare time she is a certified yoga instructor, avid art aficionado, and runner.
Module Focus: GTM 101: How Tech Companies Drive Revenue
● In this module, we’ll provide an overview of what a go-to-market organization looks like at a typical tech company, and the role sales, marketing, and partnerships play in helping products reach their end customers. We’ll cover the core responsibilities and goals of each of these functions, and how they typically partner together successfully. You’ll learn what metrics companies focus on, and common tactics they employ to achieve them.
Sales & Marketing Technologies: An Overview
● The average sales and marketing organizations use more than 180+ applications to manage their business. What exactly are all these tools for? In this course, we’ll provide an overview of the types of technologies sales and marketing teams typically employ, and what the benefits and drawbacks of these technologies are. We’ll cover: Salesforce, Marketing Automation platforms like Marketo & Eloqua, Google Analytics, Looker, and more.
Finding the right company culture
● Companies, like universities, are unique. But unlike universities, it can sometimes be hard to tell from the outside what these differences are. In this module we’ll cover some examples of different company cultures, and the kinds of questions and signals you’ll want to keep an eye out for when you’re evaluating your next opportunity
Intro to Product Marketing
● Product marketing is a critical function at most tech companies but is also one of the hardest to describe. In this course we’ll talk through the primary objectives of product marketing, as well as some of the variations in roles and what to keep an eye out for when you’re looking for and interviewing for these kinds of jobs.
Marketing Organizations: Who’s Who in the Proverbial Zoo
● Marketing teams can be incredibly complex, and understanding the difference between demand gen, evangelism, and marketing ops is incredibly important for you to be able to position yourself effectively for a role. In addition, understanding how different marketing roles all work together will ensure you’re able to hit the ground running when you start your new job.

Amanda Welsh Ph.D.
Dr. Amanda Welsh is Faculty Director for the Leadership and Project Management Domain in the College of Professional Studies as well as being a Professor of the Practice to the Analytics & Enterprise Intelligence Domain.
Prior to joining Northeastern, Dr. Welsh worked for 25 years in the intersection of big data and media, founding two data-driven start-ups, Integrated Media Measurement Inc. (IMMI) and Garageband.com, as well as working as a Media Research Scientist at Google, and most recently as EVP, Data Science for The Nielsen Company where she designed and ran a global partner program. Dr. Welsh has published numerous articles on data collection including a book on consumer data tracking and privacy.
In addition to her business responsibilities, Amanda is active in the non-profit world as Executive Director for The Foundation for Scholarly Culture and, before that, on the Board of Directors for Raising a Reader, a national literacy/family engagement program. She earned her Ph.D. in linguistics from Harvard University.

Gary Katzenstein Ph.D.
Gary's professional background covers three main areas: Leadership and Organizational Behavior, Innovation/Design Thinking, and International Management and Strategy. Having lived in Asia for over a decade (Japan, Korea, Hong Kong/China), He worked on strategic, organizational, and cross-cultural issues in both local companies and multi-nationals.

Brian worked as a Research Scientist at Google for 14 years. He helped start and improve Google's speech recognition, and later led research for Ray Kurzweil in natural language understanding. His team's projects help improve many of Google's public-facing applications. Before that he was part of the research team at the speech recognition company Nuance (the original Nuance). His dissertation was in auditory modeling and electrical engineering. Previously he designed workstations for Hewlett Packard. Today, he's a father and a full-time musician.

Sarah Sellke, PhD
Sarah Sellke is an associate teaching professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. Prior to joining Northeastern, she was a faculty member in the Statistics Department at Purdue University. She earned her PhD in electrical and computer engineering from Purdue in 2010 specializing in ways to model security-related issues mathematically. Sellke also holds two masters’ degrees—one in mathematics and one in electrical and computer engineering.

Evelyn Liu Sayers
Evelyn Sayers is a senior vice president at Wells Fargo where she has worked for more than 25 years through major mergers with First Interstate, Norwest, and Wachovia.
She holds a BA in economics and organizational behavior and management from Brown University and has completed extension courses in information systems, project management, and marketing from the University of California, Berkeley. Sayers has earned certifications in both project and program management and has served on the board of Next Generation Scholars, a nonprofit dedicated to college access for underserved students

Cynthia Harvey is a teacher-turned-nonprofitter who has held leadership roles in education and workforce development organizations. She earned an MA in education as a Regents' Special Fellow at UC Santa Barbara, where she TAed 14 education classes and helped launch a series of courses facilitating first-years' adjustment to life at a university. After graduate school, she moved to Goodwill of Silicon Valley, where she directed several social enterprise business lines and started the Training Department.
