Dr. Ed Powers is a Professor of Practice within the Master of Science in Corporate and Organizational Communication program and the lead faculty member for the Public and Media Relations concentration.
He joined Northeastern as a full-time faculty member in 2017, having taught part-time at the university for nearly a decade prior to that. Dr. Powers brings more than 25 years of industry experience in corporate communications to his role as teacher.
His industry background includes having served as Vice President of Corporate Communications at three billion dollar plus companies – National Grid USA, Sappi Fine Paper North America, and Raytheon Engineers & Constructors. Most recently, he was Department Head, Communications Products and Editorial Services at The MITRE Corporation, responsible for key internal and external communications channels and writing and editing support for the company's seven operating centers. Dr. Powers oversaw a team of 40 professional staff that won 10 professional awards during a five-year period.
He holds a doctorate of education in organizational communication and leadership from Northeastern, a master’s in business administration from the University of Massachusetts, and a bachelor’s in English from Brown University.
