John Park was commissioned to create a mural for the lobby in East Village. The theme of the piece is “exploring the world beyond your comfort zone,” a concept that is well understood among the students and faculty at Northeastern.
John is an artist living in Los Angeles. He was born in Korea and moved to the U.S. when he was a young child. He received his training at the Rhode Island School of Design where he studied classical drawing, painting, sculpture, and anatomy. He then taught drawing and painting at Concord High School in Santa Monica for 13 years.
His current work is an attempt to reconcile these classical influences with the more urban aesthetic of the New Contemporary art movement. His paintings are executed in a live, public setting in the many bars, clubs and musical events that serve as his studio. He has also been commissioned to install several large-scale outdoor murals.
