Volunteer Spotlight: Young Alumni Advisory Board

We asked Dimitri Clarke, a member of the Young Alumni Advisory Board, why he volunteers and stays engaged with the Northeastern community.

How did your Northeastern experience influence your career path and motivate you to volunteer as an alumnus?
My experience at Northeastern was well needed. The co-ops allowed me to focus in on shaping my career path and realize what I needed to accomplish along the way. When I volunteer for the University I feel that I am providing a service to both Northeastern and the alumni I engage. Many alumni want to be involved, but just do not know where to start.

What do you do in Boston? What do you like to do in your free time?
Currently, I work in the Financial Service/Banking industry. Our company provides custody services to our clients as well as other financial products. In my free time, I usually bike around when the weather permits. The view along the Charles River is fantastic.

For alumni looking to expand and utilize their Northeastern Network, where do you recommend they start?
I tell all alumni who want to expand their Northeastern Network to attend an alumni event. Just getting to an event will spark further interest and conversation.

What has been your favorite event or program hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations? How do you think the YAAB can help engage fellow alumni?
The 1st Thursday events are very interesting because current staff and alumni can reconnect in a comfortable atmosphere. I believe the main role of the YAAB is to engage young alumni that normally would not participate and engage on their own. We are here to catch that group of graduates and show them the benefits that come with being a proud Husky!

FUN FACT: Where would you go if you were invisible?
A meeting with top officials at the IMF.

FUN FACT: If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?
Ant, they are one of the hardest working species in the animal kingdom.
