“James Baldwin – Words of Reflection” – John D. O’Bryant African American Institute

February 12, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

An Afternoon With James Baldwin's Words 2

James Baldwin was an American essayist, novelist, and playwright whose eloquence and passion on the subject of race in America made him an important voice, particularly in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He bore witness to the unhappy consequences of American racial strife. Baldwin’s writing career began in the last years of legislated segregation; his fame as a social observer grew in tandem with the civil rights movement as he mirrored blacks’ aspirations, disappointments, and coping strategies in a hostile society. Please join us as we view one of his speeches and have a discussion about the topic and how it relates to what is going on in the world today. [Register Here]
