End of Year Awards
The ACHA announced on Friday May 15th honoring 7 huskies with end of year awards. Savaneived the 2nd team All American Award. Meredith Hanah Riley, McKenzie Powers, and Chelsea Dietz recrclerode, Mandy LaPorta, and Shannon Kelleher also recieved the Honorable Mention All American Award. Andrea Fletcher was named Academic All American. (Full Story).
Team awards were also given out at the end of year banquet. Dietz was named team MVP, LaPorta received the 7th Player Award, Harclerode receieved the Unsung Hero Award, and Amanda Lever received the Most Improved Player award.
Nick Carpenito named Harrow Division 2 Coach of the Year
Head Coach Nick Carpenito was named Coach of the Year for the ACHA division 2. He was presented his award on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club in Naples, FL. Carpenito helped this team grow from 5 skaters the first time they touched the ice, to placing 3rd at the National Chapionships. He has been there from the beginning with the development with this team. (Full Story)
Huskies place 3rd at Nationals
The Huskies left for Rochester NY on March 12th playing a round robin series with UPenn, Rainy River Community College, and the College of St Scholastica. The four teams played a round robin tournament. In the first game, huskies tied College of St Scholastica 0-0. In the second game, huskies controled the game vs UPenn winning 11-2. In the third game, huskies faced a tough loss to Rainy River Community College 4-3 in the last few moments of the game. They then continued to defeat UPenn 6-1 again to seal 3rd place.
Four Huskies named honorable mention at National Tournament
Four huskies were named honorable mention at the National Tournament in Rochester NY. Two forwards Meredith Harclerode and McKenzie Powers, defencemen Savannah Riley, and goaltender Chelsea Dietz. All four honorable mentionees along with the rest of the huskies led the team to a great season. The huskies graduate two seniors this year, forwards Jill Lizotte and Kat Palermino. Although very tough shoes to fill, the huskies hope to build to their team next year and have another successful season.
Huskies face tough losses to UMass and UVM
The Huskies took a few tough losses to national bound division I UMass Amherst losing 7-1. The huskies played tough throughout the first, but with a few unlucky bounces and the great skill of the minute men, the huskies couldn't keep up the intenisty throughout the end of the game.
Against UVM, huskies faced a 3-2 loss in the tenth round of shootout overtime for the NEWCHL championships. It was a close game all throughout the periods, ending in a 2-2 tie going into overtime. After a 5 minute overtime, the shootout began. After the the tenth penalty shot, UVM put one past the huskies goalie and sealed the championship goal.
Huskies selected to go to Nationals
The Huskies were one of four teams in the country selected to go to the ACHA Nationals this year in Rochester,NY. The huskies accompanied by the University of Pennsylvania will be representing the east. The Huskies are traveling to Bates College this Sunday to play in the NEWCHL championship game. Their opponent is to be determined.
Huskies continue sweep on the road
The Huskies once again proved themselves this past weekend. The team traveled to New York to play Columbia University on Saturday, they won 9-1. Then they traveled to Connecticut on Sunday where they beat Fairfield University 16-0. The Huskies are still undefeated in the NEWCHL with a record of 12-0 in the division. This weekend the Huskies will stay close to home when they play MIT both Saturday and Sunday.
Huskies ranked on top of DII hockey
The Huskies were once again ranked #1 in the east by ACHA on Friday. This is the third consecutive #1 ranking this season. The Huskies also met Mount Holyoke at Matthews Arena and won 15-1. With a strong showing once again from freshman McKenzie Powers who had four goals and five assists. The Huskies are on the road this weekend and will meet up with Columbia and Fairfield University. The Huskies hope to continue their sweep of DII hockey.
Huskies continue to sweep DII hockey
The Huskies dominated yet another weekend versus both Columbia University and Smith College. On Saturday the Huskies beat Columbia with a strong showing from Sophmores Anna Finstein and Meredith Harclerode. On Sunday the team traveled to Smith College and won 12-0. The Huskies are still undefeated in Division II womens hockey. They hope to continue this sweep with a win this upcoming Sunday. They will meet Mount Holyoke College for the second time this season.
Huskies maintain undefeated record at home
The Northeastern Women's Club team made a bold statement their first weekend back from Winter Break. Meeting Division I Penn State on both Friday and Saturday, followed by UVM on Sunday. The Huskies dominated on the ice with a consistently strong offense. With these wins the Huskies become closer to clinching the #1 spot for the regular season. This weekend the Huskies will meet Columbia University for the first time at Matthews Arena. Then will travel to Smith College on Sunday.
Huskies Ranked #1 in East in ACHA for the second time in a row, also #1 in NEWCHL
For the second time this season, this huskies clinch the number one spot in the ACHA east division. UPenn is coming up close in the rankings but the huskies were able to hold onto the number one spot for the second time. In the NEWCHL, huskies continue to dominate with a 6-0-0 record. In the NEWCHL, the huskeis have 74 goals for and 1 goal against. The huskies will take the ice again in the spring as they open their season with Penn State University on January 16th, Jabuary 17th, and the University of Vermont on January 18th all at Matthews Arena.
Great Weekend for the Huskies as they defeat Bates in two game series
The huskies headed up to Lewiston Maine last weekend and topped Bates 11-0 and 15-0 in a two game series. Bates was the defendign champions in the NEWCHL last year but the huskies proved that they are the new #1.
Huskies Ranked #1 in East
On friday it was announced that the Huskies are the #1 seeded team in the east in the ACHA. Outing the successful University of Pennsylvania and the University of Delaware. This is an astounding accomplishment for the first year club team.
Huskies top UMass Lowell
Northeastern defeated UMass Lowell Sunday 5-1. The team looks forward to their upcoming weekend in Maine versus Bates College. The Huskies hope to defeat last years top ranked team.
Huskies Defeated by Rams
The Huskies suffered a loss this weekend at the University of Rhode Island. They were defeated 4-3 by the #1 ranked Division I team. Northeastern was leading up until the last 3 minutes of the game. The huskies look forward to this weekends game against UMASS Lowell.
Huskies Continue Success in ACHA
With a victory on Saturday over Smith College at Matthews, and a win in Vermont on Sunday, the Huskies maintain their undefeated record. This weekend the Huskies will travel to URI in hopes of defeating the Division I team.
Huskies dominate Mount Holyoke
Huskies continue to make their name known in Division II Club Hockey after a win over Mount Holyoke Saturday 16-0. The win marked the Huskies third win of the season and second win in the ACHA. The Huskies hope to continue their success this weekend against Smith College and the University of Vermont.
Huskies start season with win over Fairfield University
The Women's club hockey team played their first game in the ACHA this weekend. The Huskies defeated Fairfield University 17-0 Sunday. The Huskies also played Wheaton College in a scrimmage on Friday and won 8-1.
