SOPRA (Surface Optical Profilometry Roadway Analysis) is an optical profilometry system to measure the surface profile of the road surface. This will be used to measure the distance of VOTERS to the road surface for sensor offsets, as well as surface anomalies. Typical defects detected will be cracks, broken surface, potholes, and will define the area of damage and depth of potholes. In addition, SOPRA data will be used for data registration, such as expansion joints in bridge decks, where registration accuracy is critical. SOPRA will also gather roadway imagery for visual registration to global positioning.
SOPRA will perform full-field optical profilometry to measure the roadway surface at speed. Structured light, offset from single imaging camera, will provide rapid, full-field measurement of the surface geometry, and complete road surface imagery.
