Sam Solomon
The board of trustees has appointed Sam Solomon the university’s treasurer, effective July 1.
He succeeds William Kneeland, who retires in September after 29 years at Northeastern.
Solomon has worked for the university in a variety of financial positions for more than 19 years, beginning as business manager in the Athletic Department in 1989.
He became senior budget analyst in the Finance Office in 1993 and was promoted to assistant budget director in 1997, then budget director in 1998. In 2003, he was also named assistant treasurer.
This January, Solomon was named director of finance for the university, a position he will continue to hold.
“Sam’s breadth and depth of knowledge about Northeastern’s finances, programs and services make him invaluable as we chart the university’s fiscal course,” said Jack McCarthy, senior vice president for administration and finance, who announced the appointment.
Solomon, son of the late trustee and university benefactor Bernard “Bunny” Solomon, earned his M.B.A. at Northeastern in 1988 and his Ph.D. in law, policy and society earlier this year. He also holds a B.S. in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and is a chartered financial analyst.
“I’ve grown up around Northeastern,” Solomon said on Wednesday. “It’s been great to be part of something that has grown so much, physically and academically, over the years. Northeastern has really come a long way, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
