Northeastern University has signed a short-term lease with The First Church of Christ, Scientist for approximately 72,000 square feet of office space at 101 Belvidere St., Boston.
The university will use the new space, near its main campus, for administrative purposes. Employees from the School of Professional and Continuing Studies, the finance, budgeting and accounting offices and Information Services will relocate to Belvidere Street beginning in August. The Help Desk and InfoCommons staff will remain on campus.
The move will free up additional space on campus for research and classrooms, helping further the university’s ambitious Academic Plan. The Office of the Provost, under new Provost Stephen Director, will be leading discussions later this year regarding appropriate use of that space.
In April, the church announced that it was offering short-term leases for the buildings located at 177 Huntington Ave. and at 101 Belvidere St.
Long-term use of the buildings will be determined as part of the church's ongoing master planning that will involve the city of Boston and representatives from the community in an interactive public process.
