• All University Scholars in good academic standing and with a GPA of at least 3.0 can apply for a SIRF.
  • Applicants must be regularly enrolled at Northeastern University during completion of a SIRF-funded research project.
  • Applicants must meet all deadlines and participate in a SIRF Information Session/Application Writing Workshop.
  • Project mentors must be full-time Northeastern University faculty members.
  • Fellowships cannot be used for tuition or instruction at Northeastern or elsewhere.
  • Faculty secured IRB/IACUC approval is necessary for projects involving human subjects or vertebrate animals
  • Newly admitted freshmen are not eligible for summer funding the summer before enrollment.
  • Group research projects are eligible for SIRF funding. All members of the group must be University Scholars.
  • In general, fellowships cannot be awarded for travel to countries on the U.S. State Department Travel Warning List.
