Transitioning to a Major - Declaring a Major
During their first few semesters at Northeastern, undeclared students learn about opportunities across the University. Undeclared students typically enroll in the same introductory core and major courses as students with declared majors. Students must meet all the prerequisite course and GPA requirements of their intended major and are encouraged to declare a major by the end of their sophomore year in order to stay on track for graduation. Click here for prerequisite courses and GPA requirements in the current Northeastern University Catalog.
Students in our program who would like to explore their interests and develop their skills by going out on co-op before declaring a major may do so. They are welcome to enroll in a 1 credit co-op class, EXED 2000, in the fall of their sophomore year and go out on co-op in the spring of their sophomore year if they would like more time to explore.
Declaring a Major
Transitioning to a Major - Declaring a Major
Once students feel comfortable that they have come to a decision about the major they would like to join, the process for declaring that major is simple. Provided prerequisite courses and GPA requirements for the specific major(s) have been met, students should meet with the appropriate faculty or academic advisor in the major department or College student services office (locations below) to complete the Program of Study petition.
For the specific requirements to transfer into the majors at the University see the Undergraduate Catalog .
To transfer into programs in the College of Arts, Media and Design; the College of Science; and the College of Social Sciences and Humanities – go to the department of the desired major (click here for locations) to speak with and receive the approval of a faculty advisor. Then bring the Program of Study petition to the Center for Student Academic Services (CSAS) in 1 ME.
