Regulatory Affairs Degree Introduced to the GTA

The Master of Science in Regulatory Affairs for Drug, Biologics, and Medical Devices program is designed to educate graduates who are highly qualified to manage the regulatory process for companies innovating and developing the latest cutting-edge products in science and medicine, from discovery to commercialization, in Canada, in the United States and around the globe.

Students will deepen their understanding of current regulations and their applications in the development and commercialization of drugs, biologics, and medical devices, while gaining the opportunity to tailor their education to meet specific career goals, with six different concentration offerings. You can focus on operational regulatory affairs, strategic regulatory affairs, clinical research regulatory affairs, international regulatory affairs, regulatory compliance, or general regulatory affairs.

According to Stephen Amato, PhD, Program Director, Regulatory Affairs for Drugs, Biologics and Medical Devices: “This is a unique opportunity for Canadian students to become thoroughly conversant in both Health Canada standards as well as the United States FDA regulations for biomedical product commercialization. By the time students complete our master’s degree program in Toronto, they’ll not only become conversant in regulatory affairs as they exist today, but they’ll also learn how to keep up with ever-changing regulations for the future.”

Employment prospects in this area are hot. Dr. Amato says: “Experienced regulatory professionals are in great demand. A graduate degree in regulatory affairs will help advance your career. Toronto is an especially active market in medical devices and our program covers this important area of the industry as well.”  John LaBrie, Founding Principal of the Northeastern University – Toronto campus says: “The medical device field in the GTA is a growing economic driver for the entire region.  Employers in this emerging biomed and biotech sector are growing rapidly and need highly qualified and competent regulatory affairs professionals to help bring new discoveries to market.  It’s an exciting time for this sector.”

Current students and faculty across our regional campuses further foster that lifelong global community of learning and mentoring. Northeastern’s Regulatory Affairs program has its roots in Boston’s BioTech and BioMed industry but has become an internationally recognized degree with alumni throughout North America and Asia.

After conducting extensive research with employers in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond, the team at Northeastern is confident there is a solid need for this master’s program in regulatory affairs, which is available now fully online and in hybrid in Toronto, making it convenient for students everywhere.
