Alumni/ae Weekend 2010: October 22-23

NUSL Reunion

Alumni/ae Weekend is almost here! Join us for this dynamic two-day reunion celebration this month. On Friday, October 22, 2010, NUSL will host a cocktail reception for all graduates and your favorite, talented faculty members. This reception will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Dockser Common, following the Dean’s State of the School Address in Dockser room 240 at 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, October 23, 2010, the reunion class dinner and reception will be held at the Colonnade Hotel from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. This year’s celebrating classes are: ’50, ’55, ’75, '80, '85, '90, '95, '00, and '05.

Saturday morning programming will start with a welcome from the Dean at 10:15 a.m., followed by a question-and-answer session with NUSL faculty, including Dan Givelber, Steve Subrin, James Hackney, and Martha Davis. The afternoon will include tours of the school by current students, lunch in Dockser Commons, and a “Duck Tour” of Boston.

There are numerous activities at varying price ranges, but many are free. Take this opportunity to come back, see what made NUSL such a special place to learn about the law, and enjoy a great time with classmates and professors!

NUSL to Host 2010 Global Entrepreneurship Week Events

This year, for the first time, the Northeastern University School of Law will contribute to the university’s campus-wide Global Entrepreneurship Week activities. During this week, people come together to explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. Through this global initiative, the next generation of entrepreneurs will be inspired and supported. Events hosted at the law school include a reception, networking opportunities, and three panels: "Entrepreneurship and Urban Development," "Challenges for Entrepreneurs in the Electronic Games Industry," and "Impact of Changes in the Economy on Venture Capital." Other events on the university campus include programs on social entrepreneurship and demonstrations for IDEA and the Husky Innovation Challenge.

The NUSL panels will bring together entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, practitioners, and members of the law, business, and media faculties, including the following NUSL graduates: Mary Kay Leonard, ‘78, President and CEO, Initiative for a Competitive Inner City; Rashmi Dyal-Chand, ‘94, Professor of Law, NUSL; Alexander J. Aber, ‘02, Attorney, Foley Hoag LLP; and William Hochberg, ‘90, Attorney, High Mountain Law. The moderators are Professors James R. Hackney, Jr., James V. Rowan, and Susan Barbieri Montgomery ’86.

The conference will be held at NUSL's Dockser Hall from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The Office of Admissions Welcomes the Class of 2013!

It was an exciting year in the Office of Admissions. We received more than 4,300 applications – a law school record! With a median LSAT of 161 and median GPA of 3.53, the entering class of 220 students has the strongest academic profile in the history of the law school. They are a wonderfully diverse group – 34 percent identify as students of color, ranging in ages from 20 to 50, come from 122 different undergraduate institutions, and 12 percent self-identify as LGBT. We are thrilled to welcome the Class of 2013 to the law school!

Thank you to the wonderful group of alumni/ae volunteers who played a vital role in our recruitment efforts this year. Almost 60 graduates participated in our admissions ambassador programs – e-mailing, calling, and meeting with prospective and admitted students. Our ambassadors represented NUSL at law fairs in DC, New York, San Francisco, LA, Atlanta, Seattle, and Minnesota, and also joined us at our on-campus receptions for admitted students.

On the road again! The Admissions staff is now traveling all over the country, recruiting applicants for fall 2011. We need lots of proud and enthusiastic NUSL alums — from all walks of law and all over the world — to help get the word out about our unique program. Whether you can spare a few minutes to e-mail a prospective student, a few hours to attend an event, or even to grab lunch with an admitted student — we’d love to have your help! Anyone interested in becoming an admissions ambassador should contact Abby Fitzgerald, Associate Director of Admissions, at a.fitzgerald@neu.edu or 617.373.4522.
