Program Description: The Egypt Dialogue provides students with intensive instruction in Global reporting/magazine writing and an in-depth overview of Egyptian and Arab politics, history, culture, and society. Through formal and informal activities, students engage with professors Sullivan and Hempel, plus guest lecturers, and Egyptians in dialogue and discussion of current events, culture, history, and bilateral (Egypt-US relations) as well as global issues. Guest lectures/topics include:
- Pharoanic history, Islamic art & architecture, Christianity and Judaism in Egypt,
- Contemporary politics and the coming ‘transition’ (“after Mubarak”),
- Egypt-U.S. relations, Egypt and the Arab League - what Obama should do in the Middle East
- Grass-roots organizing, NGOs, and civil society
- Popular culture, “new media”, blogging, and
- Egyptian-American Dialogue
