Program Description: The Australia Dialogue provides students with intensive instruction in both mental health (Abnormal Psychology) and health psychology (Health Counseling) as it is applied to both indigenous and non-indigenous Australians. Through formal classroom activities as well as site visits to mental health centers and community health agencies, students will learn about the clinical presentations, research, and treatment interventions currently being practiced and studied in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. A major emphasis in this course will be to understand health, health counseling, and mental health issues from an Australian perspective. In order to accomplish this, we will both read scientific literature based on Australian studies and also learn from Australian researchers. Experiential learning will take place by all day visits to several health and mental health sites in Melbourne and Sydney to learn about clinical and research work occurring in settings in both the urban and rural areas.
