Unity Gospel Ensemble (JDOAAI)

Mission: Spreading the Gospel (good news) of Christ through music to the university and surrounding communities.  Offering mentoring and role modeling to the University's students primarily those of the African Diaspora and to serve the University-oriented programs needing musical and cultural input. Increasing students cultural awareness, preserving Black culture and providing a creative outlet for students. To this end, it is improtant to focus on the tradition of spirituals and gospel music within the Black experience as an integral part of the Ensemble's perspective. By linking the performance with the historical role and function of spirituals and gospel music in Black life, all participants will enhance their knowledge, appreciation and awareness of this music and Black culture.
