Impact
The Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program offers a positive solution to all forms of men’s violence against women. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, battering is the single leading cause of injury to women in the United States-more then rape, auto accidents, and muggings combined. Just as startling are the statistics from the Department of Justice on rape and sexual assault; once every two minutes a women is sexually assaulted and one in six American women have been a victim of attempted or complete rape.
MVP engages and helps to empower both men and women to end violence against women. Since 1993, we have trained more than 150,000 people in violence prevention.
Evaluation Highlights
In an independent study, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health found that “MVP demonstrated both that the need for such programming clearly exists and the MVP was successful in beginning to meet that need. Survey data suggested that the MVP program influenced a positive change in student participants in terms of their level of knowledge and awareness about gender violence, their attitudes toward gender violence, and their confidence to confront male violence against women in our society. Further, the evaluation data revealed that students who underwent MVP training were extremely satisfied with their experience in the program and that many changed their behavior because of it.”
