Safaa Usmani is from London, England, and is two years into her undergrad degree in Sports Science at Loughborough University in the UK. Safaa took a year out of university to undertake an internship with Sport in Society, which she feels will be valuable experience as she pursues a career in the Sport for Development and Peace sector.
During her High School years Safaa was part of her local swimming club, competing in county-wide meets and representing her borough of London, Hackney, in swimming and diving. Since 2008 she has been training Capoeira, a Brazilian martial-art and dance. This led to extensive travels around Brazil, discovering the art-form and culture surrounding it. A combination of travels, athletic experience and education has led to Safaa’s belief that sport is a valuable tool in instigating social change.
