An Open Letter To High School Coaches

August 29, 2011

Dear Coaches,

I write this at a moment when the spotlight on teen dating violence amongst high school students is as bright as ever.  This phenomenon is a daily occurrence afflicting our young people, and it is vital that adults in roles such as yours are informed and prepared to be leaders in preventing teen dating violence.

In the interest of being proactive rather than reactive, we would like to share a list of 10 concrete things coaches can do to prevent gender violence amongst high school student athletes.

Sport in Society is a national leader in gender violence prevention and have been so for 25 years. We have delivered our Mentors in Violence Prevention curriculum to the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, MLL, the World Cup in South Africa, NCAA, and most importantly to middle schools and high schools throughout Massachusetts. If we can be of any assistance to you, your student-athletes, or your school, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Dan Lebowitz, Executive Director
Sport in Society, a Northeastern University Center
