In today’s increasingly competitive, technology-driven global environment, where business data across all companies is estimated to double every 1.2 years, and the public sector is building enormous data infrastructures, the ability to manage and analyze large volumes of data is critical to growth, innovation, and productivity in every field. From finding cures for cancer to plotting more efficient service delivery routes, from predicting crime hot spots in our cities to pinpointing marketing efforts, industries need individuals with the curiosity, creativity, knowledge, and skills to analyze and model complex datasets and draw actionable insights. Steps to Success by Dr. Svetlena Garg

Meet the Speakers

We have gathered industry experts and motivational speakers to share their insights on Silicon Valley’s job market, Internet of Things, the role of data in our everyday lives and how we can deal with the daily challenges in the workplace and beyond.

PK Agarwal
P.K. serves as the Dean and CEO of Northeastern University–Silicon Valley.

He also serves as the Chairman of Future 500, a Bay Area-based pioneer in the area of global sustainability. Formerly, he was the CEO of TiE Global, an organization dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship across 61 cities in 18 countries. Prior to TiE, P.K served as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Chief Technology Officer for the State of California.

He has also been in executive and management roles with ACS (now Xerox), NIC Inc., and EDS (now HP).  PK (as he is famously known) helped pioneer the use of Internet in government and shaped the national and state policy in this area, dating back to Al Gore’s National Information Infrastructure Advisory Council in 1995. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and an adjunct faculty at USC and USF.  PK is an alum of IIT Delhi and UC Berkeley.


Kilton Hopkins

Kilton started programming computers when he was 8 years old. That was 1986. He started a software company a few years later. The world is very different than it was back then, but Kilton is still bringing new tech companies to life.

He currently serves as IoT Program Director for Northeastern University. He also serves as the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of IOTRACKS, which provides the world with open technologies for building a better Internet of Things.
Kilton lives in Berkeley, California. He received his MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2010. He likes to meditate, make music, and read about everything scientific.


Juliana Lebowitz

Juliana Lebowitz is the Manager of Marketing Strategy and Business Analytics at Northeastern University, where she uses analytics to optimize the enrollment funnel, segment leads, maximize marketing ROI and discover trends in the Level Education program. Her background is in classical languages, and she is currently pursuing a Masters of Professional Studies (MPS) in Analytics at Northeastern.



Dr. Svetlena Garg

Svetlena started her career as a Dentist and pursued it for three years. Her journey involves a roller coaster ride from dropping out of MBA two times to finally pursuing graduate management degree and from being disheartened by remarks to believing in herself and living a dream. She leaves no stone unturned to overcome an obstacle and she believes in getting things done. She takes and encourages taking calculated risks. After successfully changing careers, she now aims to boost others to pursue their dreams.
