Micro Credentials: Cell Therapies
The ever-changing landscape of the biotechnology field requires constant training. With over 40% of the total global biotech market space located in the San Francisco Bay area, Northeastern University has an opportunity to be first-in- market with relevant learning opportunities in innovative areas within the field of life science biotechnology. The College of Science (COS) is offering a unique set of workshops in cell therapies, and other areas within the field that provide exposure to the latest cutting-edge topics available in molecular biotechnology. After a live kick-off that can be attended in-person or online, full workshops are offered online and stacks into the COS MS, Biotechnology Degree.
Cell Therapies Workshop
The first workshop in the series offers exposure to the most current and innovative areas available in molecular biotechnology. The following topics will be covered – introduction to molecular biology and cell therapies, stem cell biology and therapies, RNA interference, CRISPR/Cas -9, CAR T-cell immunotherapies, various types of gene therapies, and more. Participants will learn the theory and practical application(s) behind these new technologies, how they are conducted, as well as their potential in facilitating scientific discovery and clinical utilization. Participants will have access to an experiential opportunity and will also have the option to take the course for audit or credit.
Start Date and Location
The workshop will kick off on May 21 , 2018 and be offered in downtown San Francisco, CA. Optional 2.0 credit.
The workshop kicks off with a live, interactive presentation that can be attended in-person or online and is followed up by a six-week instructor-led online learning program with activities, resources and collaboration.
Optional Experiential Credit or Continuing Education Units (CEUs) Track
This track is available for students and professionals interested in obtaining credit and/or want the access to a real-world project with our industry partners. Participants in this track will demonstrate competency through provided assessments. The experiential projects are online and in addition to the existing workshop learning resources and activities. The projects are six weeks long and commence in week three of the workshop after successful completion of the week two assessment (total time commitment for this track is 9-weeks). Students and sponsors work closely to produce deliverables that align to cell therapies or related biotechnology field. Participation in these projects allows students to apply classroom theory to practice and grow their professional networks while contributing to a real-world organization’s ability to move forward on project-based work and connect with rising professional talent. Students can receive up to 2.0 credits applied to the MS, Biotechnology if they are admitted into the program or alternatively 2 CEUs. Students who successfully complete this track will receive a digital credential that can be shared.
Workshop with Experiential Credit Track $2890
