Mechanics of Receding Contacts
D. Hills, University of Oxford
J. Barber, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor
Contacts are often categorized as either “advancing” or “receding” depending upon whether the contact region grows or diminishes respectively with increasing load. While advancing contacts have received considerable attention over the last few decades, problems of receding contact are relatively less well explored. Nonetheless these problems are important in a variety of application areas. The aim of this symposium is to bring researchers in this area together to present recent advances and to anticipate future needs.
