Phishing E-mail Targets CCIS Community

what-is-phishingStudents within the College of Computers and Information Science (CCIS) have reported receiving the below phishing e-mail. Like many phishing e-mails, this particular message attempts to trick the user into clicking on a link that supposedly points to an official CCIS website. Remember to pay attention to the “from” field as this e-mail originates from outside the University.

If you receive this email please do not click on the link and delete it from your inbox.

Dive into the PHISH TANK!

Rules for Phishing Contest:

  1. Each weekday (M-F) during the week of October 26th, OIS will post a sample phishing e-mail to www.northeastern.edu/secureNU
  2. Each message will have up to 4 things that identify the message as a phishing attempt.
  3. Identify the clues and submit your answers to phishcatcher@neu.edu.
  4. For each clue correctly identified, 1 point will be awarded with a maximum of 4 points per day.
  5. Submissions must be received by 11:59 PM EST of the day of the post. In other words, for the phishing message posted by OIS on Monday, October 26th, all submissions must be sent to phishcatcher@neu.edu no later than 10/26/15 @ 11:59 PM EST.
  6. To receive bonus points, send your twitter handle to phishcatcher@neu for us to verify.
  7. All participants must be a current member of the Northeastern Community (i.e. Faculty, Staff or Student).
  8. In the event of a tie, one person will be randomly selected as the winner.
  9. The winners will be notified during the first week of November.
