Northeastern University–Seattle Appoints Associate Dean

Northeastern University is proud to welcome Dr. Angela L.E. Walmsley as associate dean of its graduate campus in Seattle. Dr. Walmsley will be overseeing all aspects of academic and student affairs for Northeastern University–Seattle, which is set to open in January 2013 in the South Lake Union neighborhood.

 “We are excited to welcome Dr. Walmsley to the Seattle campus in this important role,” said Tayloe Washburn, dean and CEO of Northeastern University–Seattle. “Her leadership and experience as a university and a K-12 educator, especially in the area of mathematics, will make her an especially valuable asset to our mission and to the region.” 

Dr. Walmsley has been working in the field of education for approximately 20 years. Prior to joining Northeastern University, she served as the Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research in the College of Education and Public Service at Saint Louis University. In addition, she mentored both undergraduate and graduate students regarding teaching and research, directing multiple dissertations and theses. Dr. Walmsley has authored five books and approximately 25 articles. 

Dr. Walmsley holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Illinois, a Master of Education and Diploma in Statistics from Trinity College Dublin, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Education from Saint Louis University. She has taught middle– and high-school mathematics both in the United States and the United Kingdom; and has taught general education and mathematics education courses and research methods courses at the undergraduate and graduate level at two universities in the Saint Louis area. 

“It is an honor to be a part of Washington state’s first private research university,” said Dr. Angela Walmsley. “I look forward to helping create a world-class educational experience for Seattle-area students. 

Dr. Walmsley is joined by other recent Northeastern University–Seattle hires including Senior Director of Business and Community Relations, Stephanie Pure; Assistant Director of Admissions Recruitment and Student Services Gina Takasugi; and Administration Operations Manager Colleen Broberg. Dean and CEO, Tayloe Washburn, came aboard in May. The Seattle campus team is Seattle area-based.
