Faces on Campus – Praneeta Jhanwar

Praneeta Jhanwar recently graduated from Northeastern University – Seattle with a Master’s in Computer Science. With her outstanding academic achievements, positive attitude, and commendable work ethic, Praneeta embodies the core values of NU Seattle. It was no surprise that she was asked to represent the student body at NU-Seattle’s 2017 commencement ceremony. Here, she reflects on her time at NU-Seattle and looks ahead to the future.

How did it feel to be chosen as NU-Seattle’s student speaker at this year’s commencement ceremony?

I was thrilled. It was the first time I was going to give a formal speech. It felt reassuring, that all the hard work for two years that had gone into completing the course was for something great. I immediately shared the news with my family and it was immensely satisfying to see how proud they were.

What inspired you when writing your speech? Were you nervous?

I was extremely nervous. I practiced my speech for a few days. While writing the speech, I did not have to think much. It came directly from my heart.

What is the one thing that you have learned at Northeastern that has impacted your life the most?

Make the most of what you have got and keep moving forward while focusing on your goals.

Every student has a dream of joining big educational institutions with big campuses. NU Seattle is fairly new. But I think I made the most out of this aspect. It was easy to develop friendships and relationships at the institution. Because of the small size of the campus, the instructors could pay attention to each student’s performance and growth. We could provide constructive feedback and the staff was able to cater to our needs. All this was possible only because NU-Seattle was growing with us!

What will you miss most about NU-Seattle?

Everything! It’s tough to pick one thing. The campus, hanging out with friends, finishing assignments and the classroom sessions.

Finally, what are the next steps for you now that you have graduated?

It is just the beginning. Completing graduation was just the first step towards what lies ahead in the future. As fresh graduates, we have our foundations in place. But in today’s competitive world, I think we always have to be on our toes and keep learning to be successful. My short term goal is to be an excellent software developer, and I am putting all my efforts in trying to be that.
