How To Apply to the Master’s Program
Applicants may complete and submit the application online. Or, click here to request further information about the graduate program.
All portions of the application must be received by:
- February 1 for priority fall admission
- August 1 for regular fall admission
- October 1 for spring admission
Admissions decisions for the Master’s Program are made on a rolling basis. Upon completion of your application, it will be sent to the Graduate Admissions Committee for review. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all documents are received by the graduate school. No action will be taken until your admissions file is complete. Please use the following checklist as you prepare your application.
#1 Application Form
The entire application form must be completed, and the applicant must submit the $75 application fee online.
#2 Personal Goal Statement
Your personal statement should briefly describe your background, interests and your reasons (expectations, goals, etc.) for wanting to pursue graduate study in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice. You may include any other information that you feel may be useful in considering your application for admission. We do ask, however, that you limit your personal statement to approximately 500 words.
#3 Transcripts
Unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended should be uploaded to the ApplyYourself system as part of your application.
#4 Test Requirements
Official scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are required, and must be sent directly to the Graduate School from Educational Testing Services (ETS). Only scores from the past five years will be accepted. No application for admission will be considered prior to receipt of official scores from ETS. Our school code is 3682. International applicants must also submit evidence of English Proficiency (from one of the following):
- TOEFL or
- IELTS or
- Degree earned at U.S. institution or
- Degree earned at an institution where English is the only medium of instruction
#5 Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation are required. Letters should be of an academic and/or professional nature, and not from friends, relatives or neighbors. Letters of recommendation must also be submitted online as part of your application.
#6 Resume
Please upload a copy of your resume to the online application.
#7 Writing Sample
Applicants are also required o submit an example of written work from the candidates undergraduate studies.

International students are required to complete a Declaration and Certification of Finance form if admitted to the progam. This form and directions can be found on the International Student and Scholar Institute website.
#8 Submit Application
Please do not hesitate to call or write if you need further details regarding the application process or the academic offerings of the program. Applications cannot be considered complete until all materials have been received, including applicable test scores. Students may check the status of their application by logging onto the online application website.
