Message from the Dean

Welcome to the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. The School has its roots in the creation of the College of Criminal Justice, which was established in 1967, making us one of the oldest criminal justice programs in the United States. We offer degrees at the undergraduate (B.S.) and the graduate (M.S. and PhD) level.

Our educational offerings cover the full range of crime, criminal justice, legal, and justice policy issues. Our classroom education, coupled with experiential learning provided in collaboration with Northeastern's renowned Co-operative Education Program, further distinguishes the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. With over 8,000 graduates now occupying leadership positions in law and jurisprudence, research and higher education, policing and security, and corrections and juvenile justice, the School is poised to be one of the 10 most prominent schools in the U.S. devoted to the study of criminology and criminal justice policy.

Our faculty are drawn from many academic specialties including law, criminology, public policy, sociology, psychology, political science, economics and history. Our three research facilities – Center for Criminal Justice Policy Research, Institute for Race and Justice, and Institute on Security and Public Policy – are intimately engaged in shaping criminal justice policies and programs. Our students, through their participation Co-op and other forms of experiential education, are systematically exposed to the administration of justice in its many forms on a day-to-day basis in international, federal, state and local agencies both public and private. We are also home to the George Lewis Ruffin Society, an organization committed to equity in the administration of justice. Whatever your criminal justice interest, the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice will prepare you well for graduate or law school, as well as for leadership roles in the wider justice system.
