Insurance & Claims
Employee Claims
Northeastern University maintains a comprehensive property insurance program.
Northeastern Owned Property
Insurance coverage for University owned property covers all buildings, including projects under construction, and all personal property owned by Northeastern, including equipment, specified research animals and property improvements.
The property policy excludes all types of currency, land, bodies of water and animals, aircraft and watercraft, vehicles of faculty and staff, and most types of electronic data, programs and software.
Personal Property
Should a loss extend to personal effects of faculty/staff and students, those items may be covered depending on the circumstances of the claim.
Please note: If an incident occurs in a residence hall, the University's property policy does not apply, per the Housing Agreement signed by each resident:
- "Northeastern University will not be liable for loss or damage to students' or students guest's property located in any campus housing facility. For example, this includes but is not limited to damage caused by fire, flood, accidents, or loss or interruption of heat, electricity, burglary, theft, or vandalism."
