Certification Testing Test Preparation Certification Maintenance Program
Visit the RID website for a detailed description of the national certification testing process. RID’s website explains that passing the written portion of the exam is a prerequisite to taking the performance test. After you pass the written test, you may apply for the performance test through RID. Once you have a receipt letter from RID stating that your application and payment have been received and that you are eligible to take a performance test, you may contact a supersite directly to make an appointment to take the test.

Northeastern University is a supersite offering the performance tests on Fridays. To schedule a test at NU, contact Alberto Sifuentes at 857.366.4195 (v/vp) or via email at a.sifuentes@neu.edu.

A list of all supersite testing locations in the NURIEC region is available here.

As with any testing situation, it is best to prepare for the written and performance exams. An NIC Practice DVD is available through the RID Store. You may also want to check with a Lending Library near you for test preparation materials. Northeastern University’s Summer Symposium offers a track on preparing for the NIC performance exam. Many of the upcoming professional development opportunities on our calendar are Continuing Education Sponsor Initiated Activities. These activities are offered or co-hosted by an RID sponsor. Interpreters may also earn CEUs for other activities they elect to take on their own. Our Center provides necessary forms and procedures for interpreters to earn CEUs for participation in a Participant Initiated Non-RID Activity (PINRA) or in Academic Coursework.

Interpreters who benefit from self-directed study may earn CEUs at home through the
CATIE Center at St. Catherine University.
