Faculty Fellows

The Department of Residential Life & the Office of the Provost are excited to introduce the launch of the Faculty Fellows program. Faculty from various colleges are connected with each of our first year residence halls to provide an opportunity for students to get to know their faculty outside of the classroom. Faculty will be involved in hall programs, going to meals in the cafeteria, going to events off campus; but most importantly getting to know and interacting with students in the residence hall.

The purpose of the Faculty Fellows program is to enhance the personal growth and development of students at Northeastern through informal interaction and mentorship in a residence hall setting. Faculty will provide mentorship, leadership, programs and other opportunities that will enhance the outside of the classroom experience for these students and make them feel more connected to the University. Faculty will work directly with residence hall staff and students to help build a community that will bridge the academic and residence life experience.

Goals

  • Foster a strong community with students. Faculty will participate and may help plan programs and serve as a resource and a presence in the community of which they are a part. Faculty will receive programming funds, if necessary.
  • Faculty fellows will be kept informed of issues and events in the residence hall.
  • Faculty fellows will meet regularly with residence hall staff to assess the needs of the community and discover how the talents of the faculty member can best serve that community.
  • Faculty will be invited to all programs and events in the residence hall.
  • Faculty would be expected to have about three contacts per semester with their community.
  • Students will be aware of who the Faculty Fellow is and will receive marketing materials and newsletters explaining the program.
