Proposed research involving the use of human subjects or vertebrate animals requires approval from the University's Institutional Review Board (IRB), or Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Although most agencies only require an acknowledgement that necessary protocols are pending at the time of submission, investigators need to contact the appropriate office to discuss research requirements during the proposal development stage (see below). Keep in mind- protocols MUST be secured before any research can begin. Failure to do so can result in the nullification of data resulting from said research.
