The White House's Materials Genome Initiative on its 2nd Anniversary: The Materials Genome Initiative was launched by President Obama to address a significant longstanding national challenge – “accelerating the pace of discovery and deployment of advanced materials systems” – with an inspiring promise to halve the time and significantly cut the cost of the materials technology value chain.
On the 2nd anniversary of The Materials Genome Initiative, New England will host a regional workshop at which industry materials development and R&D leaders, leading academic researchers and technology transfer professionals, and government science and technology developers, can speak to important questions and provide input to Materials Genome Initiative leaders.
- How can the Materials Genome Initiative interface effectively with industry to achieve the national priority of accelerating the materials technology pipeline to commercialization?
- How can industry, academia, public-private partnerships, and government work together to achieve the goals of the Materials Genome Initiative?
- What are the salient areas of opportunity for government investment to achieve the goals of the Materials Genome Initiative?
- What can the New England region do, utilizing its corporate, academic, and public-private assets, to make a strong contribution to the success of the Materials Genome Initiative?
An opportunity exists to pursue a deep industry-university-government regional partnership in New England within the Nation’s Materials Genome Initiative. This workshop will include speakers, panelists and working groups comprised of New England leaders in government, industry, and academia to identify collaboratively challenges and solutions to move forward in this integrated initiative.
