External funding for the University's research totals more than $40 million per year. Licensing agreements with companies that use our technology and inventions exceed $1 million annually. Northeastern ranks among the top five in licensing revenues among U.S. universities with annual sponsored research expenditures averaging less than $125 million. More than 30 new technologies or inventions are created annually on our campus. Seven spin-off companies have been created as a result of technology developed at Northeastern.
