Based on user feedback, and recurring errors downstream in sponsor systems such as FastLane and eRA Commons, the Coeus Team is pleased to announce new validations in Coeus: Check for Special Characters.

As you know, Coeus can help you identify errors on your proposal before you submit it to Grants.gov.  Finding issues early increases the probability of error-free proposal submissions.  Business rule validations are built in Coeus to mimic Grants.gov and some sponsor proposal compliance checks.

Coeus will now check for Special Characters in:

  1. All Proposal Attachment file name(s) – any Attachment Type
  2. Description(s) in “Other” type proposal attachments
  3. SubAward Organization name(s)

Special characters include, but are not limited to:  blank spaces ‘ , # ! % ^ & * () {} [] \ / ? < > : + ; “

Since Special Characters will cause errors in Grants.gov and other systems, Coeus will also reflect an error if it detects a special character as described above.

The Coeus Common Submission Errors  QuickCard has been updated with these new validations.

We continue to work with the community of users to collaboratively identify and assess new ways Coeus can further assist and support our researchers and research community.
