In an effort to collect more specific data around the types of activities to which we submit applications, information necessary for required government reports, we will be making a slight change the Activity Types in Coeus.

Currently, there is an Activity Type labeled “Organized Research.”  As you know, there are 3 different types of Organized Research: Basic, Applied, and Developmental.  In order to more accurately identify which type of Organized Research to which the application applies, we are introducing 3 separate types of Organized Research:

Organized Research - Basic = systematic study to gain knowledge or understanding of the fundamental aspects of phenomena and of observable facts without specific applications toward processes or products in mind;

Organized Research - Applied = systematic study to gain knowledge or understanding necessary for determining the means by which a recognized and specific need may be met;

Organized Research - Developmental = systematic use of the knowledge and understanding gained from research for the production of useful materials, devices, systems, or methods, including the design and development of prototypes and processes.

The Original “Organized Research” Activity Type will be renamed “DO NOT USE –Organized Research – OLD”  so as to dissuade users from selecting it on future proposals (if it is selected, your Grant Officer will contact you to discuss to which of the new Activity Types it should be changed); it will represent the old Organized Research Activity Type on applications submitted prior to this change.
