Faculty Effort in Coeus should be entered by matching the %Charged and %Effort fields. You are not allowed to have a greater amount for %Charged than %Effort. However should the %Effort be greater than the %Charged than you will generate a cost-share. In most cases the %Charged and %Effort fields will be the same.

Summer Salary
Summer Salary should be used by faculty who are on an 8-Month Academic Appointment and would like to budget for some, if not all of the 3.2 summer months that they are eligible to request for summer salary. The Salary Type field should be set to Salary-Faculty Off Contract. To correctly determine the percentage of effort to enter in the %Charged and %Effort fields, use the Summer Salary COEUS Calculator, available in the resources section of the website.Note: For Summer Salary, the %Charged and %Effort fields cannot exceed 80%, as 80% is the equivalent of 3.2 Summer Months in Coeus.
When entering summer salary it is important that the period between the Start Date and End Date be exactly 4 months. If necessary the dates can be split up to stay in accordance with Northeastern's summer calendar (May 1st - August 31st), so long as the total months add up to 4 months.
Academic Year Salary
Some faculty on an 8-month Academic Appointment (8M DURATION) at times will conduct research during time designated for their Academic Appointment. These situations occur with the support of the department chair. The Salary Type field should be set to Salary-Faculty. It is important that the period between the Start Date and End Date be exactly 8 months. Academic Year Appointments at Northeastern go from September 1st - April 30th. The dates can be split up to stay in accordance with Northeastern's academic calender (September 1st - April 30th), so long as the total months add up to 8 months. Unlike Summer Salary, the %Charged and %Effort fields are out of 100%.
Salary for employees with a 12-Month Appointment
Employees with an Appointment Type of REG EMPLOYEE or 12M DURATION are on a 12-month calendar appointment. It is important that the period between the Start Date and End Date be exactly 12 months. The Salary Type field should be set to Salary-Faculty. The %Charged and %Effort fields are out of 100%.
