Poster Sessions

10:10 - 11:00 a.m.
Location: West Village F, 1st & 2nd Floor Lobbies
Poster presentations are concurrent and allow students to discuss and display
their research on posters during the session. Students may not use exhibits
of models, devices, or computer programs.
- Each presenter is required to prepare a poster presentation in advance.
It must be no larger than 48 inches (4 feet) wide by 48 inches
(4 feet) high.
- Each presenter will be provided half of an 8' x 4' presentation board
for each poster display (board size is 96" x 48" and will display
2 posters.)
- We recommend that posters be readable from at least three feet away
and that the presentation title be at least two inches high.
- Try to stay practical with standard fonts. Times New Roman, Arial, and
Garamond are all legible and readable.
- Like a brochure, a poster is not meant to overwhelm the reader with
text. Try to space out your information in a way that is informative,
attractive, and useful.
Include on the poster the following sections:
- Name(s) of student author(s)
- Name of faculty research advisor
- Name of your home institution
Presenting
- Presenters will be assigned a time to stand by their posters for presentation.
Other than that time you are free to explore other posters.
- Your poster should "speak for itself" since you will not always be at
your poster site. Unlike bulleted notes on a PowerPoint slide, your poster
should be complete and provide all important information. People should
be able to view your poster and figure out what you did on their own.
- The poster session is more of an interaction than a presentation - less
formal or structured, more conversational.
- Allow yourself five minutes to explain information that is not already
presented on the poster.
- The posters will continue to be shown after your presentation, so please
leave them on display for others to observe and enjoy later.
Poster Set Up
The poster set up takes place at 7:30 a.m. You are responsible for getting
your poster to campus. Each poster presenter will be assigned a position
number which corresponds to a specific board. You should have your presentation
mounted by 8:15 a.m.
