Bearing Witness to Trauma: Innovative Tools to Assist First Responder and Victim Services Agencies, An Interdisciplinary Conversation

DVI and IUHRP invite local first responders, victim service providers, public health professionals and the Northeastern community to join us for a panel discussion about vicarious trauma and the health and wellbeing of employees. We will also introduce the newly launched Vicarious Trauma Toolkit, a first-of-its-kind online resource funded by the Office for Victims of Crime, U.S. Department of Justice.
Keynote speaker: Kurt Schwartz, Director, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA)
Kurt Schwartz’s strategic leadership guides and oversees the state’s preparedness, response and recovery from natural and intentional disasters, including the terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon. He previously served as the MA Undersecretary of both Homeland Security and Law Enforcement, and as a state criminal prosecutor, police officer, and EMT. He will illuminate the personal and professional impact of vicarious trauma from his broad and extensive background.
Discussants will include MA first responders and members of the national Vicarious Trauma Toolkit Team.
