I am an undergraduate day student. There is a transfer course without an NU equivalent on my degree audit ("No Rule" on the audit). What should I do?

Before you entered NU, did you supply a course description to Admissions? To inquire about the status of the course, please e-mail your NUID number, transfer institution name, and course number to transfercredit@neu.edu. If you never supplied the course description, please include it in the e-mail.

I am an undergraduate day student who was given permission to take a course outside NU. Why does my transfer credit not appear in My Degree Audit?

Please contact the advisor who gave you permission to take the course.

I am an undergraduate day student. A course seems to be listed in the wrong area in My Degree Audit. What should I do?

Please consult your advisor. He/she can determine if the course should be moved elsewhere in the audit.

I am an undergraduate day student who recently transferred to NU. Why does my transfer credit not appear in My Degree Audit?

First, make sure that a final transcript was sent to Admissions at or before the time of your matriculation. Then contact transfercredit@neu.edu

I am an undergraduate day student with a minor or second major. It does not appear in My Degree Audit. What should I do?

Up to two declared minors will appear near the end of your audit. If you have declared a minor with the college and do not see it in your audit, please speak with the college with which you are declaring the minor—it just may not have been added to your student record. Third minors and second majors are not pulled automatically into the audit. You need to run them separately by clicking on the “Explore Options” button and using the dropdown menu in My Degree Audit.

I am an undergraduate day student. I recently changed my major, but the change does not appear on my degree audit. What should I do?

Change of major is usually updated on the degree audit once per semester. Your audit will not display the new major until the first day of the new semester. You may run degree audits using the "Explore Options" button until then.

I am an undergraduate day student. My transfer credit is not on my transcript or is wrong. What should I do?

Transfer credit is loaded from the degree audit system to the student system before the start of a term and before a registration period. If your transfer credit has changed between those times, it may not be reflected on your transcript. View your "My Degree Audit" on the myNEU Web Portal. If that transfer credit is correct, it will be posted to your transcript later in the semester.

What happened to the College of Business Administration? I can’t find it.

The College of Business Administration is now known as the D’Amore-McKim School of Business.

When are activities periods for undergraduate day students?

Activities periods were eliminated after spring 2011 semester.

When do classes start

Please consult the academic calendars

I have already spoken with my professor, and he/she has turned in my grade. Why isn’t my grade on myNEU?

Have your professor contact the Office of the Registrar (registrar@neu.edu) to verify his/her grade submission.

What does an incomplete (grade of I) mean? How do I make up an incomplete grade?

The period for clearing an incomplete grade is restricted to one calendar year from the last day of the term in which the course was taken. For the student’s protection, the precise arrangements for the clearance of an I grade should be specified on the Incomplete-Grade Contract. The contract is signed by the instructor and by the student at the time that the incomplete grade is assigned. A copy is kept in the office of the dean of the college in which the course is offered. An incomplete grade outstanding for twelve or more months will remain permanently and irreversibly as an incomplete on all records.

I believe I received the wrong grade for a course. How can I get it changed?

Please contact the instructor. He or she will need to fill out a Change of Grade Form and submit it to the Registrar’s Office at 120 Hayden Hall for processing if the grade should be changed.

How does a withdrawal (grade of W) factor into my GPA/QPA?

The W grade indicates that you dropped the course. You will not get credit for the course, and it is not calculated into your GPA/QPA.

What was the due date by which my instructor should have submitted my grade?

Grade due dates are noted in many of the academic calendars

How do I calculate my GPA/QPA?

Please visit the GPA/QPA calculation page

Once you process the grades, how long does it take for them to appear on myNEU?

Once the grade is received by the Office of the Registrar, it is generally posted on myNEU within 24-48 hours.

How long does it take to process grades?

End-of-term grades are generally processed within three business days following the last day of final exams. Grades submitted late by faculty are processed as they are received and are posted nightly on myNEU

I am unable to contact the instructor and have not received a grade. What should I do?

If you have attempted to contact your instructor and have not been successful, you should next try his/her department’s office. If you still cannot contact your instructor, then contact the Office of the Registrar for help.

How can I find out my class rank?

Northeastern University no longer ranks students. Your grade-point average (GPA), also known as the quality-point average (QPA), should suffice on verification forms or applications.

I am a graduate student. How do I go about making changes to my class schedule?

You can add classes via your student account on the myNEU Web Portal through the end of the class-add period for each semester. Please consult the academic calendars for exact dates. To add a class after the end of the class-add period , you will need to fill out a Graduate School Closed & Late Course Registration Form and have the instructor and the dean's office sign off on the form. Finally, return the form to 120 Hayden Hall for processing. Please note: If there are physically not enough seats in the classroom, your request form may be denied.

You can drop classes via your student account on the myNEU Web Portal through the end of the class-drop period for each semester. Thereafter you must use the Course Drop Form to drop a class—see the Registrar’s Forms page for the correct form. Please note that there are two class-drop deadlines—(a) the last day to drop a class without a W grade (leaving no record of the class on your transcript) and (b) the last day to drop a class with a W grade. Please consult the academic calendars for exact dates. If you do not drop your class by the last day to drop a class with a W grade, you will remain in the class and receive a letter grade.

I am a graduate student. My major/degree/official record is wrong. What should I do?

Please contact your department.

How to obtain your transcript:

I am an alumnus or alumna. How can I obtain my NUID?

Your NUID is located on your transcript, which can be obtained as follows:

You may also obtain your NUID at 120 Hayden Hall with proper ID (driver's license, passport, etc.).

How can I obtain a verification or have my verification form filled out?

Students can call the verification office to have a form faxed, mailed, or picked up at 120 Hayden Hall to receive their enrollment verification. If students have a particular form for our office to fill out it, can be faxed, scanned, or mailed to our office.

  • Fax: 617.373.5351

I am an undergraduate day student. I am supposed to be on vacation this summer, but I want to take classes. How do I register?

You may register for classes during the scheduled summer registration period through the myNEU Web Portal. Your enrollment status will be changed to in-school within one week after you register for a class.

For undergraduate day students, what are the differences among a combined major, a dual major, a double major, and a second bachelor's degree?

Please visit the specific page on the Registrar’s Web site that discusses in detail the combined major (formerly known as the dual major), the double major, and the second bachelor's degree.

I am an undergraduate day student. I am trying to add a course, but the system says that the course is closed. What should I do?

To add a closed course during the add period, you need to speak to the department offering the course to have it approved and provide the override to allow you to register.

I am an undergraduate day student. It is past the add date and I need to change sections of a class. What should I do?

If you need to change sections of the same class, submit a Late Course Registration Form for the new section and a Course Drop Form for the old section, stapled together, to the Office of the Registrar (120 Hayden Hall).

I am an undergraduate day student. What happens if I do not  complete my “I Am Here” by 4:00 PM on the deadline date?

Wait until you receive the e-mail letting you know that your classes have been dropped. Then go to the myNEU Web Portal and reregister.

I am an undergraduate day student. I forgot to do my “I Am Here.” What do I do now?

All classes for which you registered have been dropped from your schedule. Please attempt to reregister for your classes via the myNEU Web Portal after you receive the e-mail stating your classes have been dropped. If a class is now full, you must speak to the department offering the class. If they approve your request, they will enter an override into the system that will allow you to register for the class via your myNEU. If you do not reregister for any classes, then you will be withdrawn from the University.

I am an undergraduate day student. I am not planning to return to Northeastern this term. How do I withdraw?

Please complete the University Withdrawal Request.

I am an undergraduate day student. I am supposed to go on co-op next semester, but I've decided to take classes instead. What do I do next?

Contact your academic advisor to change your pattern of attendance to in school, and ensure your co-op advisor drops any job placements from the co-op system.

I am an undergraduate day student. How do I register for a minor?

If the minor is within your current college, you should meet with your academic advisor, who will submit a request to the Office of the Registrar if approved.
If the minor is outside of your current college, you will need to contact the college to find out their method of declaring a minor, as it varies from college to college.

A complete listing of minors is available in the Undergraduate Catalog (click on the “Minors” link near the top of the page).

I am an undergraduate day student. I am trying to drop my classes, but I have a hold. How can I drop my classes?

To drop a class or all of your classes when you have a hold, do the following:

  • Before the last day to drop without a W grade, you should e-mail registrar@neu.edu with your NUID and the CRNs of the classes you want to drop. The subject of the e-mail should indicate you have a hold and need classes dropped.
  • After the last day to drop without a W grade, you will need to submit a Course Drop Form to the Office of the Registrar for each of the classes.

I am an undergraduate day student. I have a hold on my account right now. May I still preregister for next semester?

Advising, health and most financial holds will block registration. You will have to clear them before registering.

If you have a medical-leave hold, you may register, but you will need to clear the hold before the end of  “I Am Here.” If you do not, your classes will be dropped, and you will be withdrawn from the University.

I am an undergraduate day student. How do I increase the number of credits I can take this semester?

Contact your academic advisor. Your advisor has appropriate access to increase maximum hours for a student through Self-Service Banner as soon as registration is available.

  • Exception: During the summer, you have to register for a class before your advisor can increase maximum hours.

I am an undergraduate day student. How do I take a class while on co-op?

Speak with your academic advisor to confirm that you can take a class while on co-op. Then follow these instructions:

  • One class: Students do NOT need to fill out the Petition Registration Form to take one class while on co-op. They can register online and must complete “I Am Here” at the appropriate time.
  • Two classes: Students should fill out a Petition Registration Form if taking two classes while on co-op for any term. Students will also have to complete “I Am Here” as well, or they will be dropped.

I am an undergraduate day student. I need to take time off. How do I take a nonmedical leave of absence?

To take a personal leave, submit a leave-of-absence request via the myNEU Web Portal. Click “Registrar Forms” under the “Self-Service” tab and follow the instructions to submit a request for nonmedical leave of absence.

I am an undergraduate day student. I am on a leave of absence. Can  I preregister for classes?

If you are returning from a leave of absence, you can preregister for classes based on the following criteria:

  • Personal/emergency leave: You will receive a time ticket and can register at the appointed time and any time after time tickets are finished.
  • Medical leave: Same as personal/emergency leaves, except medical leave holds are enforced during the first three weeks of each term. You will need to wait until after the last day to drop with a W grade for that term (as indicated in the academic calendar), when the hold no longer blocks registration, or clear the hold with University Health and Counseling Services.

I am an undergraduate day student. How do I go about making changes to my class schedule?

If you are a freshman who has attended orientation, you should contact your academic advisor for assistance with changes to your class schedule. If you have not attended orientation, class schedule changes will be taken care of at your orientation session.

Otherwise, you can add classes via your student account on the myNEU Web Portal through the end of the class-add period for each semester. Please consult the academic calendars for exact dates. To add a class after the end of the class-add period , you will need to fill out a Late Course Registration Form and have the instructor and the dean's office sign off on the form. I am an undergraduate day student. How do I find out if I made the dean’s list?

Please contact the dean’s office of your college to verify that you are on the dean’s list.

I am an undergraduate day student. I should be registered for a directed study. What is the process to do so?

Speak with the faculty member with whom you wish to take the directed study, and have the faculty member submit an Undergraduate Directed Study Registration Form, with all appropriate information and signatures, to the Office of the Registrar (120 Hayden Hall).

  • The form should be submitted no later than week two of the term in which the directed study is occurring.
  • All fields are required on the form, especially the instructor’s NUID.
  • Both the instructor’s signature and the departmental signature are required.
  • Once the form is received, it should be on your record in 24–48 hours, provided there is no information missing from the form.

I am an undergraduate day student. My major/degree/official record is wrong. What should I do?

Please consult your academic advisor.

I am an undergraduate day student. My enrollment status is wrong. How do I fix this?

  • If your enrollment status is wrong for a fall or spring semester, contact your academic/co-op advisor to make a pattern-of-attendance change.
  • If your enrollment status is wrong for a summer semester, wait one week, and it should be cleared by the Office of the Registrar based on whether or not you are registered.

I am an undergraduate day student. How do I find out the date and time at which I can begin registration for next semester?

Registration is determined by the number of credits you have earned. Your exact start time for each term will be shown on the Registration Status page in Self-Service Banner on the myNEU Web Portal on the Thursday before registration begins.

I am an undergraduate day student. How do I change my date of graduation?

Please contact your academic advisor.

When will my transcript be ready for pickup or mailed once my request has been completed?

Transcripts are normally mailed out or made available for pickup two business days following the date of the request. During peak times (beginning and end of terms), please allow for three to five business days.

Can someone else pick up my transcript for me?

If you have completed a transcript request for pickup, we require an authorization letter in order to have someone else pick up your transcripts. You must scan or fax us an authorization letter stating that you give the Transcript Office permission to release your transcripts to another person. Your name, the name of the person picking up your transcripts, and your signature must be on this document. You may scan and email to transcripts@neu.edu or fax to 617.373.5351. The person picking up your transcripts must show a photo ID.

Can I use an automated process to register for classes?

No.  Any student attempting to bypass the normal registration process by using automated means to spam the system with requests will be automatically locked out from adding classes that term and will have to speak with his/her advisor or the Office of the Registrar. All such attempts to do this contribute to system performance problems, seek to achieve an unfair advantage over other students, and will not be tolerated.
