FACT
Faculty Support
The Northeastern University Faculty-Advisor Communication Tool (FACT,
formerly known as the Early Warning System) has been designed to facilitate
communication between faculty and advisors throughout the semester to
promote student progress and increase the likelihood of student success.
For example, faculty can use FACT to identify, at an early stage, those
students who are experiencing difficulty, both academic and social. In
addition, faculty can use the system to complete required reports for
student athletes and report non-attendance issues.
Faculty will be asked to submit information on these at-risk students
at least once during the academic term. This information will be submitted
through the FACT system and distributed to students and their academic
advisors.
FACT will generate an e-mail that will be sent directly to a student’s
neu.edu e-mail account, indicating that the student needs to meet with
an advisor. An advisor, who will also be notified of the case, can then
access the system to see the comments and concerns logged by faculty.
These concerns can include:
- Progress to date
- Grade to date
- Sources of difficulty
- Suggestions
For each of these sections, faculty will be provided with menu items
from which to choose. For instance, under sources of difficulty, a faculty
member may select one or more options from a list that includes attendance,
attitude, tardiness, exam/test/quiz results, and such.
There will also be limited space for faculty to provide specific comments
for the advisor (these comments will not be forwarded to the student).
Students will be encouraged to meet with their academic advisors to
discuss the case, and the faculty member can chose to be notified once
the student is seen.
