Bouvé College of Health Sciences - Curriculum Guide
Athletic Training
(School of Health Professions)
Jamie L. Musler, MSEd, ATC, Interim Program Director
Faculty listed under Physical Therapy
The five-year athletic training program is designed for students who are interested in an allied health-care profession specializing in the health care of athletes. Working under a physician's supervision, athletic trainers are members of the sports medicine field who specialize in the prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Athletic trainers work with secondary school, college, and professional athletic teams and may be employed in private clinics.
Students may apply from high school or apply for transfer into the athletic training program after successfully completing their first year of academic study. To be accepted into the program, applicants must maintain at least a 2.0 quality-point average during their first year and must achieve a grade of C (2.0) or better in all professional courses and all basic science courses. In order to complete the athletic training program, students are required to fulfill their clinical education requirements during academic quarters with athletic teams in approved settings at Northeastern University or other colleges, universities, and high schools in the Boston area.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Students who graduate from the athletic training program are eligible to sit for the National Athletic Trainers Association Board Certification Examination.
